The Jeep Compass, a compact crossover SUV, was first introduced in 2007 and is now in its second generation. The first generation of the Compass, along with the Patriot – another variant from Jeep, marked the automaker’s initial venture into crossover SUVs.
In September 2016, the second-generation Compass was unveiled in Brazil and later showcased at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in November 2016. This model shares a modified platform with the Renegade, and it is positioned between the smaller Renegade and the larger Cherokee on a global scale, or the Commander in South America.
The Jeep Compass is a 5-door SUV that comes with either front engine, front wheel drive or all wheel drive configuration.
The Jeep Compass Concept
The concept of the Jeep Compass was revealed four years prior to the production model, at the 2002 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The concept vehicle boasted a two-door body, all-wheel drive and a 3.7-liter V6 engine. However, the 3.7 L Power-Tech V6 engine from the Jeep Liberty was not included in the 2007 production model of the Compass. Despite this, the production model retained the concept car’s design elements and some features. Notably, the production model Compass came with four doors as opposed to the concept car’s two doors.
Compass Generations
Currently, there are two generations of the Jeep Compass. The first generation, known as the MK49, was produced from 2007 to 2017. The second generation, referred to as MP/552, has been in production from 2017 to the present.
- First generation MK49 (2007 to 2017)
- Second generation MP/552 (2017 to current)
